Blockchain and Art Revolution: Kresus Teams Up with Christie’s to Offer Immutable Ownership Certificates

An Exclusive Collaboration for Art Collectors

Transforming the Art Collection Management Process

Christie’s, a renowned auction house, has joined forces with Kresus to introduce a groundbreaking way for collectors to manage and authenticate their art collections. In a pioneering move, Kresus will issue blockchain-based ownership certificates for 130 auction lots featured in an upcoming Christie’s sale.

Secure and Immutable Ownership Records on the Blockchain

The auction, titled “An Eye Towards the Real: Photographs from the Collection of Ambassador Trevor Traina,” is scheduled for October 2nd at Christie’s Rockefeller Center venue. Through this collaboration, Kresus will create digital certificates for each of the 132 lots, providing collectors with a secure and immutable record of ownership on the Coinbase-operated blockchain Base.

Enhancing the Collector Experience

A New Era in Art Provenance

Collectors will have exclusive access to their digital ownership certificates through the Kresus wallet, offering a modern solution for managing and verifying physical art. Trevor Traina, founder of Kresus, emphasized the potential of this initiative for collectors and highlighted the establishment of a new standard for art provenance in the digital age.

Commitment to Transparency and Authenticity

Nicole Sales Giles, VP Director of Digital Art Sale at Christie’s, expressed the firm’s ongoing commitment to enhancing the collector experience through innovative means. The provision of ownership certificates marks a significant step towards transparency and authenticity in the art world, showcasing Christie’s dedication to embracing technology and advancing the integration of blockchain in the art market.

Auction Highlights and Record-breaking Sales

The auction features a collection of diverse works by renowned artists such as Diane Arbus, Cindy Sherman, Robert Frank, and William Eggleston. Ambassador Traina’s collection embodies key mid-century themes, including the prominence of female photographers and the evolution of color photography. Earlier this year, Christie’s witnessed record-breaking sales, such as the iconic “Identical Twins, (Cathleen and Colleen), Roselle, New Jersey, 1966.”
