Philippine Air Force and Japan Air Self-Defense Force Launch Disaster Response Exercise in Cebu
Joint Training Exercise for Disaster Response Capabilities
The Philippine Air Force (PAF) and the Japan Air Self-Defense Force (JASDF) have initiated the “Doshin-Bayanihan 2024” exercises in Cebu, focusing on humanitarian assistance and disaster response (HADR).
Enhancing Disaster Relief Capabilities
Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo, PAF spokesperson, announced that the bilateral training exercise commenced at the Brig. Gen. Benito N. Ebuen Air Base, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, and will continue until Sunday. The training program includes various HADR operations such as simulated airdrop flight training, load/offload operations, aeromedical evacuation exercises, and subject matter expert exchanges.
Building Stronger Relationships and Skills
Exercise director Col. Reynaldo Jose Montoya encouraged participants from PAF and JASDF to utilize this opportunity for knowledge sharing, skill enhancement, and cultural exchange. These interactions are crucial for bolstering capabilities and fostering camaraderie between both air forces.
Collaborative Efforts for Disaster Preparedness
Prior to the formal commencement, the JASDF delegation, headed by Lt. Col. Shotaro Arai of the 1st Tactical Airlift Wing, paid a courtesy visit to Maj. Gen. Joannis Leonardi Dimaano, head of Air Mobility Command. The joint training initiative aims to strengthen operational capabilities in HADR and deepen cooperation, strengthening the bond between the Philippines and Japan.
