Midwest Blockchain Conference Brings Together Students and Industry Leaders

First-ever Midwest Blockchain Conference

Last week, the inaugural Midwest Blockchain Conference kicked off at the Ross School of Business, hosted by Michigan Blockchain and College DAO. The event saw participation from students representing over 30 universities, around 40 on-chain companies, and more than 50 speakers, totaling over 1,000 registrants.

Exploring the World of Web3

The conference provided a platform for attendees to delve into the realm of Web3, the latest evolution of the internet aiming to empower users with data ownership. Cornell Blockchain President Leah Valente defined Web3 as encompassing blockchain, crypto, and the Metaverse within a new internet era focused on data ownership.

Bridging the Gap Between Students and Companies

The conference facilitated interactions between students and on-chain companies, aiming to bridge the gap between talent and opportunities in the blockchain industry. Michigan Blockchain co-president Evan Solomon highlighted the importance of connecting students with crypto companies for internships and job opportunities.

Empowering Students and Dispelling Misconceptions

The event brought crypto out of the virtual realm into a physical setting, providing students with firsthand exposure to the industry. Industry experts aimed to dispel misconceptions about crypto and highlight the potential career opportunities in the field.

Future of Web3 and Crypto Industry

Experts at the conference discussed the future trajectory of Web3, predicting blockchain to become a fundamental layer in various fields like accounting. Students were encouraged to explore opportunities in the crypto industry despite regulatory uncertainties, with hopes for more pro-crypto regulations to boost industry credibility.

Building a Collaborative Community

Beyond a business focus, the conference aimed to create a collaborative community among students and industry professionals. Participants shared insights, built connections, and paved the way for future collaborations in the blockchain space.
